Sometimes a boss fish strikes your idle line. This is the one part of fishing that is not idle: you have to show up and fight.

The fight

• You get a 5-minute window to respond before it escapes.
• The fight plays over rounds of button presses. Each reel attempt has roughly a 75% chance to succeed.
• Fail a reel and your line strains. Three snaps and the boss escapes.

Why bother

Boss fish are worth far more than normal catches, in cash, XP and journal prestige. If your phone buzzes because something enormous grabbed your line, answer it.

Tips

• Keep notifications on for the channel where you fish.
• A better rod helps before the fight even starts, by making boss strikes more likely in the first place.
